Betsy Mitchell
Vice President of Organizational/Staff Development

Betsy Mitchell, a 17-year member of the Green Bay Packers, in 2009 begins her second year as the organization's vice president of organizational/staff development.

Named to the newly created position by Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy July 23, 2008, Mitchell is responsible for all employee relations, professional development, strategic planning and deployment, leadership and management development, as well as the community outreach and human resource departments. The bulk of her previous experience with the Packers was as the staff/player development consultant.

"Betsy has served the Packers very well through the years and I have been impressed with her work since I joined the organization," Murphy said. "In her new role, she has continued to be a great resource and leader for everyone in the organization. I look forward to her ongoing contributions."

Mitchell has a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a state-licensed mental health professional with more than 25 years experience in private practice.

In her first role with the team as the staff/player development consultant which began in 1993, Mitchell utilized her counseling and leadership development skills to better the organization by providing players, coaches, other Packers staff and their families with consultation services on issues of performance, life circumstances and leadership. She worked to develop optimal relationships between members of the team and the organization.

Through her career with the Packers and prior experience in private practice, she has had the opportunity to present for and consult with the NFL on all areas of player development, conduct policies and leadership initiatives. In addition to her work with the NFL, Mitchell's seminar and presentation experience includes the American Medical Association, American Psychological Association, Wisconsin Clerk of Circuit Court Judges Association, Wisconsin Bureau of Training and Standards, American Nurses Association, Wisconsin Nurses Association and Wisconsin County Police Association.

She previously owned Mitchell Management Consulting, which specialized in performance and organizational development, program design, and performance enhancement for small businesses. She also designed and developed behavioral medicine programs and previously owned and managed a private behavioral care practice.

In the community, Mitchell is involved with the WPS Community Chorus, a group of singers that performs concerts for non-profit organizations and many area retirement homes. She also is a member of the First United Methodist Church, a charter member of the board of A Woman's Place at St. Mary's Hospital, a board member for Cerebral Palsy Inc., an advisory board member for the Wisconsin Sports Development Corporation, and a board member for Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mitchell previously was involved with Leadership Green Bay, a formalized training program organized by the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce for area participants who meet one day per month to discuss pertinent area issues, including the economy, heritage, cultural awareness, human services, government, environment and history. A small team within Leadership Green Bay with whom she worked, who dubbed themselves the "The Outhouse Gang," built the restroom facility at St. Francis Park on the Fox River Trail. Group members remain connected and recently built raised gardens for the wheelchair-bound clients of the CP Center in Green Bay.

Born in Tomahawk, Wis., Mitchell grew up in nearby Minocqua, Wis. She was married for 20 years to Pete Mitchell, a lieutenant with the Brown County Sheriff Department, until his death in 2003 from colon cancer.

Mitchell has two children: a son, Aaron, 26, who graduated from UW-Madison law school and practices intellectual properties law in Chicago, and a daughter, Emily, 24, who also graduated from UW-Madison with degrees in history and economics and will be attending Marquette University Law School in the fall. In her spare time Mitchell enjoys hiking, fishing, snorkeling, reading ("everything and anything"), word games, music (mostly vocal) and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys traveling, particularly adventure travel to interesting spots such as New Zealand, Belize and Scandinavia.
